StyleWe.com: A Review

Have you heard or visited the clothing site StyleWe?  Is it worth it to spend $$ here? Is it legit? Read on for a review.

StyleWe has a beautiful selection of modern fashion clothes. But, if you visit their Facebook page or SiteJabber you’ll notice a lot of negative complaints. Here’s my experience with StyleWe.

I ordered the below garment on and expected it to arrive within 2 weeks time based on their shipping information. You’re given a tracking number to follow your package. As I checked on it, it seemed to be stuck in Hong Kong for about a week. I emailed StyleWe’s customer service and after a couple of days received a reply. But, it was a form letter stating how sorry they were about me wanting to return my item. Uh?

I replied back saying I hadn’t even gotten my item yet and wanted to know the status. At this point I was getting nervous about one, giving them my credit card information and two, maybe all the negative comments I had read on the Facebook fan page were true.

About 2 days later I received an email stating that it got hung up in customs and to be patient. Good with me, at least I heard back from someone. Funny, how you feel like a little kid rushing to the mailbox every day, peering in, did it come yet!?

Week four I received an email saying it was in Kentucky.

A little more than five weeks and finally arrived in my mailbox.

Here’s my observations

Website/Business

First, it’s from China, but they may have someone in New York managing things, social media etc. Plus, the photos are very professional and highly styled.

They state that these are independent designers although I have yet to find an actual designer on Instagram or anywhere for that matter. My ‘designer’ is ElenYun. But, I can’t find any information on her beyond what is on their website.

If I was a designer on this site I’d be more than concerned with the negative comments.  But, you can read how StyleWe is a fashion designers ‘best friend’.

The website can be hard to read. There are many errors and sometimes it just doesn’t make sense. It seems like they might be using Google Translate.

They have updated their website since I first ordered. And, they have updated their shipping information. Read it before you purchase something.

If you have any complaints and are not getting a response via email, try their Facebook page or on SiteJabber, they will (from what I’ve seen) answer you (they did in my case).

I noticed that they don’t always show the different colors of the same dress. You have to click on the designer to see all that is offered by that designer, and it will show you if a dress comes in a different color.

You can search by size, fabric type and designer from a menu on the left hand side.

From the comments return/exchanges can be delayed just as long as purchasing.

  1. Submit a Return/Exchange request on their website.
  2. Email proof of your purchase
  3. Send item back
  4. Wait

More on how you need to return an item.

When I made my order they were using DHL. DHL service is used Europe and Asia. DHL most likely doesn’t have the same amount of hubs that FedEx does so that could account for more delays (at least in the U.S.). It looks like on my order DHL sent it to a USPS center and then delivered to my house. So you can see they possibility for delays. Which is fine. I don’t need a 60.00 dress to arrive the next day.

Overall, I feel that this is a new e-commerce company that may have started in Asia and then decided to go global. It just doesn’t feel like they have enough people to manage it correctly for westerners conditioned to more transparency, instant gratification and better communication.

Plus, as a consumer if you buy something knowing ahead of time that it might take 4-6 weeks it might alleviate any anxiety. Many people left comments thinking the whole company was a sham. If I order again, I will definitely be more chill.

Fit

This is the garment I purchased. I deliberately purchased something that wasn’t expensive and was generous in fit.

stylewedress

The fabric is polyester, the back has two layers of sheer, chiffon type fabric. Plus, there are small shoulder pads. You MUST look at the fitting specs for each item, even if it is the same ‘designer’. Looking through the dresses, in some cases I was a small and in others a large. I’m sure everything is “Made in China”.

For this purchase I selected a medium based on the measurements. I was concerned about the sleeves, thought they might be too tight, so I felt good about ordering the medium.

The photos are top notch and there are several views and a zoom feature that you can use.

Quality? It is a 60.00 dress. As a seamstress I can tell you it looks like any other mass produced garment. I would be interested to see some of the higher priced garments and their details fabric etc..

Overall I’m happy with the purchase. Would I buy again? I’m concerned about the fast fashion aspect and working conditions. This site reminds me of similar China based clothing sites that offer dresses, garments etc for 11.99 and such. The garments on StyleWe are touted as designed by independent designers and the designs themselves are very beautiful and modern. I do love what they have on there, no doubt about that.

But, I wonder how much the designers get, who are they and more transparency on that end.  I would love to hear from one of the designers. Why don’t they put one up on their Facebook page instead of the cute puppies and ‘look how I lost 10 pounds” videos. Their Facebook feeds doesn’t seem as professional as I think it could be.

Alternatives

I’ve been looking around for other independent fashion designers, maybe closer to home, that give me the transparency that I want.

These companies look promising and in some cases have been on the scene for several years. The prices vary, some are a little steep for me, so to the sewing machine!

Have you used StyleWe, what was your experience? Please leave suggestions or comments. Plus, I would love to know if there is other similar sites to StyleWe that have multiple designers on it, but maybe with more info on the designers themselves.

Thanks!

    • Stylewe, I like their beautiful selections. The From last Apr 2016 to this Oct 26 th 2016 I have made 6 orders. They are 12 dresses, 1 wool blended coat, 1 top and 1 crossbody .Too bad there is no way I can attach pictures of my orders on their website. Luckily no missing packages for me. My orders total was $762.00. I returned 5 dresses and keep the rest. The good thing is I have no problem with all refund of $ 268.00. The not good things are : 1/ Prices are still high especially they are made from China. 2/ Many same dresses are selling by different designers with different prices that you could pay higher price without knowing. 3/ Not all of them are well made, one of my dress is crooked but I was stupid, didn’t think i would be a big problem until I have to adjust it over 30 times for couple of hours wearing it. 4/ All of the models are 5.9 or 6 f tall, I’m petite 105 lbs, 5.3 tall, most of the dress are too big n too long for me. 5/ Shipping take too too too long. 6/ No free return which they should offer. Other than those, I’m happy with my purchases. I also search for the return address in Ontario to see if it is a store in the outlet because is take around 3 hours to drive from where I live, but I assume they just rent a place for their office or storage … Hope this can help.

  2. This is going to be long!

Sizing is my biggest issue with them. I bought a dress that I thought was absolutely gorgeous online, a navy mini swing dress with a really unique tufted appearance in tiny blocks spread out over the dress–I’m doing a terrible job describing it; here’s a link:

    https://www.stylewe.com/product/dark-blue-asymmetric-crew-neck-plain-sweet-mini-dress-34749.html

Anyhow, I paid very close attention to measurements because I was aware after reading about the company that sizing was going to probably going to make or break the whole experience. I would have been a medium, but decided to size up to large just to be safe. I’ve purchased clothing from Chinese companies before and where they always go south (for me, anyhow) is in the shoulders. As everyone knows, you can’t fix or alter an item which is too small in the shoulders; it’s the one area that must fit perfectly for it to fit at all.

The dress came in about three weeks, though I hadn’t paid for any sort of special shipping, I was honestly surprised at how quickly it arrived.

Packaging was excellent. The dress and the accompanying slip were wrapped in tissue paper and gray ribbon, sealed with the designer’s (DDER) wax mark. The dress material was a very soft polyester, it looked a bit like burlap with those funny little tufts everywhere and just looking at it, I was extremely pleased. It was very well made, looked and felt lovely. The slip was a slip, not much to say there, other than that it also felt great, not at all like cheap poly.

Putting it on, however, was an entirely different story. It was incredibly tight across the shoulders. Even the bust was a bit small. The measurements on the site do not match the measurements of the dress. They gave shoulder measurements for this dress, and all the measurements were way off, not by millimeters but by at least an inch and a half. Keep in mind that this is a dress which, apart from the shoulders, is designed to hang loosely. I was pretty disappointed, and began the return process, which was handled smoothly by someone who either had a very good grasp of the english language or was a native speaker. She told me there would be no problems.

In the meantime, I was still bumming because I loved the hell out of the dress. I decided to keep it and sent it to my stepdaughter as a present–she and I have really similar taste in clothes 🙂 –and decided to try again with the extra large. The woman who was assisting me with customer service said that was fine too, and that because of the sizing issue, they’d knock fifteen percent off the price, hey, terrific! She asked me to do one thing, which was to measure the shoulders on the large so they could get a proper size up on the site. I did that and sent her the info. After about three days, I realized that my card hadn’t been charged yet and wrote her back to see if anything was wrong? I got a response from someone else who was not a native speaker of english and who told me that the customer rep I had been dealing with was not authorized to give a discount and would I still like the dress?

    Hmm.

Call me stupid, but I said sure. I took the chance on the XL. Why? Looking back, I have no clue, other than that I genuinely liked the dress, my husband adored me in it, and I sort of wanted to see how this was going to pan out. I had the money to spend, so it wasn’t a big deal. I had absolutely no faith that the XL would be any different w/r/t the sizing issues, or even that the shoulder length would be as it was on the site. I was a little worried about returning, but honestly I don’t think I’d have dealt with that–I’d have sold it on ebay or something, or just gifted it to someone else.

The new dress came, again, very quickly. I tried it on with trepidation, but to my surprise and relief, it fit in the shoulders. It’s still a bit more snug than I like, but it fits, and I get compliments on it all the time. My stepdaughter loves hers and it fits her perfectly.

What kills me about this site is that there are some genuinely gorgeous dresses there. I see now that they have a ‘will this dress fit me’ box you can tick for some of their items, where you put your measurements into a drop down and they’ll advise you whether that particular dress will fit you. There a quite a few dresses I had my eye on, ran them through that little sizing doohickey, and was told it wouldn’t fit. Honesty is a good policy! I notice that some of the designers are coming out with 2XL and even 3XL’s for their items. That’s also good. I think they’re genuinely trying to get a bead on western sizing, which is great. The dresses that I do own from them always come fairly quickly, they always look like the dress I’m seeing in the photos, and they’re generally well made. Nothing I’ve gotten has been cheap junk.

However, having said all this, I still don’t trust their sizing, especially when it comes to those dreaded shoulders, and most of the time I end up writing to a customer service rep to tell them that the measurements on the site are wrong. I have no idea how they arrive at their measurements. At all. Measurements vary from designer to designer, which makes me think that these are genuinely items made by different people. They do listen to this complaint, and I’ve seen the changes go up on the site, but any way you slice it, you’re taking a chance when you order from them, unless you’re insanely tiny. I’ve ordered a 3XL more than a few times even though I’m hardly a linebacker at 5’6″ and 126 lbs. It’s best to size way up with them if there’s something that you desperately want to check out. I’ve never had to return anything (apart from that very first purchase which ended up being a present and not a return) so I can’t speak to that. I’d be wary.

In closing? Be aware that the measurements on site are more often than not, completely off. It’s tough, because the dresses are quite lovely, unique and as I said, well-made. If you decide to take a chance with stylewe? Size up and good luck!

  3. Well, as we grow as savvy e-commerce shoppers, we do take that same “sale” mentality to e-commerce. We love a good sale.
However this is my Stylewe.com issues and Asian websites in general (Vipme, whomever) They flood the Internet with numerous sites looking similarly to “catch” you. They will have the same generic look or navigation bars with the same functions. Flash sale, hot sale, sample sale, it usually structurally moves the same. The return policies read the same as well and seems like it will be “easy enough”.
We see the pictures, which have to be great, because that’s all they have. But more often than not, these are not the true pictures of the garments. It may be for one, the initial one, but not all. $60. or $600. I still don’t want to be robbed and that’s what’s going on here. If you can start a website for under $20, you can easily spend a little money on what’s being sold or represented as being sold, if this is the way to make your millions and trust they are making a killling.
We can see the poor reviews and try it anyway and that’s a problem. They also take our legitimate brands, and manufacture them in warehouses and then have 20 pop up websites selling the brands we know and trust, at a bargin. We are so excited for a sale. We fall prey and they leave with our hard earned money and you can’t even get a response from a store.
You should Not have to chase down a business for a response. Or search three different websites to find them ie. Facebook, Pintrest or wherever.
Why do we lower our bar and standards when it’s ecommerce. If the language is off, not just a word missing, but truly you can hear an issue… know that something is wrong. No reputable company wants mistakes on their site misrepresenting their brand and no designer would stay if there were continous issues with clients and their hard work being diminished into a Web of scam reviews. Do you think they will give their designs to a site and not have grown enough to be on the Internet somewhere?
It’s all a scam, getting no product or poorly made product is still misrepresentation. If you went into a 99 cent store and you buy a sweater, you know what you are getting. If you are in a higher end store, you have greater expectations. Take those same expectations and requirements to the Internet, know that their intention is to continue ripping us off. Who is going to China to stop them?
When you get an email about a person stranded in a foreign country and they need your help and bank codes, why do you think it’s still going on. Because we fall prey, as stupid as it sounds. We continuously try it. It won’t end until we look, but don’t touch. It’s a $70 dress for a reason, it’s not too much that you feel disgusted with yourself, but it’s enough to make them successful. Until we all realize that we have the power the voice to tell others don’t do it and the ability to listen when we hear other people’s screams.
I’m sure there will be a couple of great reviews, there has to be. If you went to a restaurant and 4 people said their food was disgusting, but one person said theirs was great, I’m sure you would not return and you wouldn’t say I’ll wait until more people tell me they like it.
Is that dress worth it? Is it sooo nice that you can’t live without it? Every time we make a purchase, we give them the strength and money to get better and wiser. And I’m sorry, I work too damn hard for my money and I will not just give it away without a fight!

  4. I, too, have to say that I have found StyleWe difficult to deal with. I purchased and returned two dresses, several weeks apart. The first was woefully small even though I followed the company’s size chart. The second dress was the same as the first except I ordered a size larger. It was every bit as small as the first one, if not smaller. I did receive a refund on the first dress I returned, although only after contacting them numerous times. They claimed that they had never received my return and requested a copy of the USPS receipt. Before I even copied the receipt, the refund appeared in my PayPal account. “OK”, I thought, all is good. However, they also claimed that they did not receive my second return and, again, asked me for a copy of the shipping receipt. This time I have not received a refund. I am beginning to think that this is how they make their money. It seems unlikely that neither of my returns would have been received. Although not a frequent online shopper, I have bought and returned things from other online vendors with no problem at all. I believe one should steer clear of StyleWe, in spite of the magnificent products they advertise online. I will try to update my commentary as to when, and if, I receive my money back.

  5. To Jilly’s Feb 1 comment: I definitely could not afford to shop at StyleWe prices in my 20s… I don’t know many people who could, so I assume this is why the StyleWe review crowd is older. Anyway, I am now 33 and have a slightly higher clothing budget but I’m so turned off by what I can find in stores right now. Everything, including premium brands, is unstructured and cheap, both craftsmanship and fabric. I am also petite and with vanity sizing increasing each year, I am stuck in the old lady or juniors sections at the department stores. I tried StitchFix but it was just such a waste of $20 “styling fee” each time – they send you the same poor clothing from the stores but at full prices. So why not try some Asian brands where instead of 00P (how is this a size?), I can wear a medium or even a large in an adult brand? To try, I ordered two shirts and a jacket from StyleWe.

I REALLY loved the way the stuff from “I Believe You” looked online but wasn’t sure on sizing since I’m in between their M and L (by measurement). So I got their sweatshirt in M for more give. I also got a very simple peasant blouse that had no chance of not fitting. I then took a chance on a neat structured swing jacket.

I got my order in under 2 weeks. In short, unfortunately, I don’t think I found my new place to shop. My biggest disappointment is with the fabric composition vs description. I did really like the sizing, designs, structure, and fit. Just wish fabric was better but this is a big deal. To compare sizes, I am 35/25/35, 5’2″, 115. I wear S in juniors and XXS, XSP, SP, etc in misses.

    https://www.stylewe.com/product/gray-buttoned-long-sleeve-paneled-cropped-jacket-63025.html

Description says 100% leather. First, it’s obviously not from the photo since there are mixed media areas, but in person, the “leather” bits are clearly pleather. Still a nice jacket, looks good and sharp with great construction and decent craftsmanship (some loose threads, finishing could be better). Got L in this, perfect fit.

    https://www.stylewe.com/product/3-4-sleeve-floral-cotton-blend-casual-embroidered-blouse-59839.html

Gorgeous shirt, looks exactly like on the model but NOT cotton! Even on the item it says 93% cotton 7% spandex. Absolutely no way. The whole thing is nylon or polyester and a bit itchy. Got M, perfect fit for a fitted look.

    https://www.stylewe.com/product/white-v-neck-3-4-sleeve-simple-plain-blouse-58229.html

Shirt is cotton as promised. Looks like on the model. But the fabric is rough. I don’t really mind but disappointing. Got M in this, perfect fit.

With these fabrics, I can’t justify the prices. I’d shop here once in a while if the prices were 20-30% less. I’d shop here all the time if fabrics were better and prices were the same.

Anyway, as long as you’re willing to throw some money at experiments a la StitchFix, this is still much better for petites.

  6. The web site fought my eye and looking at all the comments not sure if I want to order clothing. There are many beautiful dresses and shirts I’m interested in but until I see more favorable reviews I think I’ll stick with purses. That would be safe right?

  7. My experience was a total disaster. The dress was supposed to be 95% cotton. It was some sleazy, shiny polyester fabric. The arms were too short, the dress was not at all the way it looked online. When I tried to return, it was an endless nightmare of trying to get someone to return my email. They wanted me to send them a picture of the garment so they’d know what I was returning (??). When I finally sent it back, they then demanded proof of delivery. Then, after days and days of more back and forth, with me finally threatening to dispute the charge with my credit card company, a rep said the full refund would be issued and I should check my bank statement “in a few days.” It’s been three weeks. My money is still missing.

    This place is a scam.

    • I started by ordering one dress to check Stylewe out. I absolutely loved my first dress and the packaging was first class too. Since then I’ve ordered a conglomerate of 7 dresses and two-piece dress outfits, 1 pair of pants, 2 tops and 2 coats. The quality and design is amazing! This much care and attention seemed to disappear in the early nineties. The items are so well designed, that I believe they must be crafted by skilled designers eyes. The fabrics are superb. The blends are, again, not like the stuff we see offered to us here in the U.S. off the racks. Quality fabric, quality cut is what I have been searching for. So I am so happy that Stylewe has worked to give us a better product choice than the sleezy fabrics and designs that have been available to us. I’m over the moon! As far as their service, they have a little different process, than what you may be accustomed to, but if you follow their directions it is smooth and efficient. I’ve only sent back two items which were two pair of shorts, I exchanged them with absolutely no trouble what-so-ever. I had no trouble with communication; it was a smooth process. Sizing is a also a little different than what is customary, but if you take good measurements and consider the style of the garment and how you want it to fit, you can make a good size decision. As I said, all my apparel items came and fit beautifully just as in the pictures and I kept all but the shorts. Since I have thoroughly checked them out and have found them to be first class in every way I can only conclude that the negative comments are coming from competitors or trolls.

  8. Well my experience is acceptable so far. I bought three dresses from the designer “ISABUFEI” since i love vintage. The fabric is soft and of great quality and i am very satisfied with that. Before purchase i have read some comments, saying that they’ve got misinterpretation of measurement, therefore i carefully went through product details. Overall nice try.

  9. My email to StyleWe regarding two lost packages.

Two packages have been lost. I am so disappointed with StyleWe. The issues are:

The item descriptions are impossible to follow. (an example is bust is 35 and waist is 47 for example on most. I assumed the numbers are all inverted, they are useless)
    The sizing is grossly inconsistent.
The fabric descriptions are not adequate. I even chatted with customer service to ask if an item was stretchy as described. The clerk said yes, but it was not at all when received.
Your return process is seriously flawed. Hayneedle, Amazon and Joss Main for online retailers I consistently use. Hayneedle’s return process is awesome. You print the packing slip to place inside the box, then you print the FedEx label to place on the outside, THE COMPANY tracks it then once picked up. And you are done. As soon as they receive the tracking you are credited for the return. Your company has a flawed system that will lose a lot of clients. You do NOT have adequate instruction that protect the consumer.
We shop online for most things, even groceries. For items like clothing we typically rely on customer reviews and descriptions as presented. There are no reviews.
This little trial of StyleWe has cost me $378.75. I am really unhappy.

  10. I’ve been approached by StyleWe to sell with them as a designer and am concerned about how they are run. I’m based in the UK and shipping to the US would take several weeks from my studio which I have mentioned to StyleWe. They say their customers are aware but their website says shipping is much quicker than I could offer which worries me.

I wonder if they have filled their inventory with cheap clothing to seem larger than they really are while they approach designers to sell with them. I am obviously very concerned that their poor customer service would tarnish my own brand as well.

    • It’s good to know that they are at least approaching real designers. But, with so many bad reviews I think I would be wary too. Do you know what their contract is like? That might be helpful, but if it’s anything like their return policy I might go somewhere else! I’ve heard that when people order the clothes they use cheaper fabrics, so that might be a concern of yours, that they’ll use your designs but with cheaper fabrics.

    • I’ve just been approached by them too (I’m US based) about jewelry and accessories. They told me 98% of their customers are in the US, which would make the shipping end easier for me, but I still have a lot of questions. Did you go ahead with them or opt out?

  12. StyleWe is a company I will avoid at all costs! Their items looks too good to be true– and for me that was the case. I ordered a loose fitting piece deliberately so the fit would be less likely to be a problem and ordered up one size. What I received was very very tight under the arms and snug across the chest even though I used their measurements (I’m a US size 8). Their RETURNS process is the BIG RED FLAG. In order to return an item (they do not provide the information ANYWHERE online), you have to email them a return request and wait 48 hours for them to create a return label and send it back to you. What nonsense!!! Then you send back the item and they will issue a refund in “3 business days.” Well UPS tracking shows return was delivered on 6-18-16 and today on 8-14-16 I’ve heard not a peep and NO MONEY has been returned. REALLY?!?!?!

    • Contact your credit card ASAP so you can file with them. That way you’ll at least get your money back. It should go well because you have the tracking to show you returned it. Good luck!

Jilly, thank you for this very informative article. I’ve been looking at Stylewe for some time but have been in love with EmmaStine.com’s maxi dresses (which were perfect for my 5’8″ frame). They were bought out very recently and are offline, and I’m absolutely heartbroken. Site suggestions anyone?

I do appreciate you all saving me from obvious headaches with Stylewe. Thank you!

  13. I have enjoyed looking at the beautiful designs but most are made of polyester, which explains, in part, the low prices. I also carefully looked at the measurements of different styles. I didn’t know if I could trust them because some large sizes had tiny measurements. I won’t be ordering from them but if my sewing skills improve, I may be copying styles 😉

  14. Nothing but problems with these people. They will fill your e mail box up with talk if you give them a bad review but their customer service is the worst I have ever seen. I think that they are hoping that you will go away and they will keep the cash. I bought a dress was certain of my size and it was in line with the size the site described. The dress I got was 4″ smaller in the bust, and I could get NO reply from the customer service people until I gave them a bad review on sitejabber. Then I got tons of response I got my e mail box burning up with response. I ordered the dress again in the largest size that they have figuring I could take it in if I needed to, and paid for it. I was promised that I would be refunded and that they would pay to have the second dress express shipped. I paid to return the first dress, I have not been refunded on the first dress and the second dress arrived today. GUESS even though it is tagged as a larger size it is the exact same sized dress that I returned. Their customer service agent is nowhere to be found. Thank GAWD that I always pay for my products with a credit card because I will be reversing the charges in the morning. It is a small one size fits all and you had better like it type of place. I am regularly a busty size 10

  16. I ordered a dress from stylewe ($85.00 ) and it arrived in a timely manner. The fabric was very nice and the stitching was well done. But it was a bit small for me. Via email they told me to keep the item and they would give me a credit for $85.00 (free dress that is too small). So I bought three more dresses and used the credit and only one dress fit me. The other two fit my daughters so I am not sending any back. Now I need to loose about 10 pounds for the first dress to fit . I loved the style and fabric of all the dresses. They are very unique. I haven’t seen unique dresses like these in the US. I did take measurements but the items were off about two inches. I don’t think this company is similar to the ones that refinery reviewed because none of the items are $9 or $11. Most of the dresses are around $80.00 or more. I am also skeptical that there are actual designers behind the brand names but I do love the dresses.

  17. I ordered an “Ellyun” dress, as well. It came within 2 weeks of ordering, fit perfectly (though I belted it). I chose the size based on measurements. I received several compliments on the dress. Because of the positive experience, I ordered two additional dresses! I am returning one because I thought the sleeves were lined but they weren’t. Both dresses were well made; both fit well. I will see how the return policy works. I really love the other dress I’m keeping! As previous posters have stated, it’s difficult to find lovely dresses (I wear midis) that are fresh, modern, and flattering at these price points!

  18. StyleWe is a complete sham. They never deliver the products. You submit your order, they give the run around for weeks while they gave your money, and then tell you the item is out of stock, lost in transit, whatever, and send you a refund. So the purpose of the site us to hold onto your money and make interest off it for weeks while you wait. Who you gonna call??

    • The fit was good for me, I purchased a medium and I’m rather small boned. But the skirt portion had a lot of ease to it. The sleeves were not tight on me. Did you check the measurments? I did and I followed them and then based my decision on those.

  21. Your insight is really really helpful… I too have been captivated by StyleWe’s wonderful use of fabrics and design. They are a breath of fresh air in a sea of black clothing with page after page of pretty, feminine and just plain gorgeous ideas. For me, it’s the florals. They are to die for, so thanks very much! I too am a seamstress, so I you discover their source of fabrics, I would love to know! Still, I can now, at least, be more relaxed in making a purchase…

  22. Jilly — thank you so much for the great info — really helpful — the prices needless to say are beyond reasonable — I was on the fence though because of the sizing — from many of the reviews that I’ve read on other sites, it’s either a hit or a miss — kinda makes you wonder if people are taking their “actual” (not “desired”) measurements — the dresses featured are definitely not cookie-cutter — very eye-catching… I think I’m gonna take a chance — I’ll just go up a size (for good measure) — a hundred dollars isn’t much for “making a statement” these days — and if they take PayPal, all the better… thank you again…

    Lana

P.S. I’ll be checking out the other sites you recommended…

    • Hi Lana! Yes, I think if you really look at their measurements and then take your measurments and compare, it should work out. I also picked a dress that had a lot of room, that wasn’t super fitted. I felt there would be more room for fit. I’ve also heard that individual designers have different measurements so it all can get kind of confusing if you are buying different designs! Last I checked they did not take paypal. I think that would be good, easier to get your refund, maybe. I’m going to purchase again, and I’ll let you know how it goes!

  23. I am frustrated with the mass marketed clothing you find in major dept stores and such. Wouldn’t think it would be hard finding unique polished clothing living in LA. Stylewe, was like a mirage of hope that speaks to my personal fashion aesthetic. But after reading the negative reviews and watching a segment on the Today Show about these online fashion merchants promising one thing and delivering another, I did not attempt purchase. Thank you for creating the dialogue. @jilly Please post results of your 2nd attempt/experience at StyleWe. You seem to advocate and hope for their legitimacy, as I do.

Thankfully, I can sew alot of what I desire. However, seeing nice things and just buying them once in a while is nice. I do hope the best for StyleWe. I will order again. Maybe on a sale and save some bucks.

I have noticed that these sites are very popular due to the style of clothing. I tend to gravitate towards a more polished tailored look and wish that there was an actual American/European version of the clothes offered.

My body type is not typical Asian. I ordered from other Asian site before, the size is a huge question mark if it would fit.
Return all the way to China for a refund is a huge turn off though

  26. I just received my Stylewe order today May 23. I ordered it on May 17th. Only 6 days after I ordered! This was my first order. I couldn’t be more pleased. The 2 piece top and skirt that I ordered is everything shown in the picture and more. First the packaging details were very nice. Nicer than what I normally get with mail ordered clothing. The garment fabric is exactly as stated and presented in the online description. The garment details are amazing. This skirt is not like anything I’ve ever seen before and truly has a designers hand on it. The fit was perfect to the size given. I’m 5’4″ 120 lbs and ordered the small. The quality of the fabric and details in construction are above what I typically see available in the states. Stylewe reminds me of the beautiful dresses that you could find in women’s dress shops when I was growing up as a young child, teenager and young woman. I miss those well constructed beautiful dresses that were very pretty and feminine. I miss the natural cottons and linens. Somewhere in the 80’s and especially the 90’s things started going down heel. I’m so tired of the cheap, tacky garment choices were given today. When I watch project runway and other designer shows I usually disagree when designers that don’t over sexualize their garments are deemed matronly. Or the advice that the market just isn’t going to by the “over designed” outfits. And they are advised to make garments that will sell. Thank you Stylewe for putting ‘style’ back into designs for women! With so many bad reviews I just had to take the time to write this. With the details that were put into the package and garment there is no way that they are a scam. I believe, it is just what Jilly says that they are trying to structure to catch up with the demand. I will definitely place another order. Here is what I ordered. I love it!!!!

  27. I too was intrigued by Stylewe’s stylish yet inexpensive clothes and thought about ordering a birthday party dress. Their dresses seem to be more for special occasions than for every day–some are total eye candy and bit out there! I scanned hundreds of dresses as the choices and styles were endless. I finally settled on one that I liked. Then the red flags started popping up from various reviewers. It was a “should I or shouldn’t I moment.” I finally got the nerve to place the order. I even paid for express shipping since I needed the dress within 5 weeks. The cost was charged to my cc via Pay Pal even tho I don’t have an account. The dress arrived from Shenzhen within 10 days. Fortunately, it fit perfectly and did resemble the photo–a big PHEW. I think Stylewe’s styles appeal more to the slender Asian market than to larger-sized figures. But if you are petite and can carry off something a bit flamboyant and unique, then I would give it a try. You have to give the company credit for introducing Chinese fashion to the market, altho they still have certain issues to iron out.

I ordered a large although usually I’m a medium and it somehow just fit. Have to check my weight to wear the dress. Thank God, it went well, I was tempted to buy more but after reading all these reviews will be more cautious.

I must add in that we did an order from an overseas site, Chotronette.com and OH MY GOODNESS the quality of the dress we received, which was custom made to my daughter’s measurements, was astounding. Now, it was a 350.00 dress and yes, I bit my nails, hoping a real dress would come but when it did, it was the talk of the prom and in the US would have cost far more. So my good experience there makes me more willing to try this site.

The clothing featured is very high fashion, but the prices raise the question about quality. Given your review, I have decided to look at some of the other sites you recommended. I would rather pay more and receive an article of clothing that is well made, true to size and will last than something of inferior quality and fit. The latter in my opinion is just throwing money away… Thanks again.

  32. I ordered from Stylewe last month — the dress came within the 10-day period they said it would. The fit was good — they posted accurate measurements/ things run small! — but it didn’t suit me. I followed the instructions for returning, which include emailing them a photo of the tracking slip, and they have now processed the refund. So the process is different but legit. As for designers, I found several who seem to be actual people with a particular aesthetic, one has her own website in the UK. I like the variety of styles. But you have to devote the time to search. And there’s a lot of polyester. I wish I could sew!

  34. I also think the positive reviews are processed by people associated with the website design. Most have a face of a little puppy or an Asian-looking female. I stopped payment on a beautiful dress I saw, and the processed confirmation came back as pay pal, yet, I paid with a credit card. I am having my card number changed, which is a minor convenience. I think it is good practice to have them changed every few years anyway but that has now become law (US). Beware of no phone number to call someone and getting a reply that is not personalized to your questions and concerns. What a disappointment. I really thought this site was the ultimate find! I even created a wish list of dresses. I proud to be a conscious and patient consumer. Impulse does not control any need I may desire and I seldom shop online. A lot of companies make money from consumers who never return items they purchase. We live in a fast paced society, and people are becoming more indifferent about how they spend and lose money.

    • I’ve heard the returns can take a long time and they are not quite done in the way US stores handle returns. I’ll see if I can find an address, or see if I have my original packaging. Not sure if that will help!

    • I have several items to return because they look different from the pictures and don’t fit although I did order based on the measurements provided on the website.

I sent my first request through their website per the return instruction. And I got a reply saying their customer service representative will get back to me within 48 hours. I heard back from a customer service representative asking me, “Kindly please log in our website to check your order account. There is “Return/Exchange ” button in the specific order. You need to click it and submit the request and you will get authorization from us . We will reply you with US return address by email after then.”

I replied back saying that’s exactly what I did! No responses. I sent 5 more emails and no responses from them. I logged in their website and sent another request with copies of my very first request. I received another same form email asking me to “kindly log into their website to submit my request”

It seems like those customer service representatives don’t understand English or don’t even make efforts to understand customers’ concerns. They should provide a phone number I can call in
      America.

I first sent my return request on April 9. After spending so much time to communicate with them, I haven’t received any help so far. i’m afraid I just lost more than $100 I spent to buy clothes I cannot wear plus the time I spent.

    • I ordered from this company. I was disappointed with the quality and the size which was way off from advertised! I started going through the return PROCESS with the company but decided to contact PayPal to see options and that is the way to go! They will handle the claim with the company and guarantee to refund you if the company does not honor their end of the return. No mystery emails, “cash refunds”, skeptical instructions on returning PayPal relieved my stress of this returning with this company. I was skeptical when I read the return policy before purchasing a dress so I ordered up in size, ordering up in size does not work in the case of this company. Please beware and if you have been fooled (like me) deal directly with PayPal, it will save you much frustration and stress.

    • Stylewe responded to my question about returning an item rather quickly. I could either return for a full refund (which I didn’t want to hassle with mailing overseas) or keep the item AND get a credit for a future purchase. In the USA, I wear a size Large 12/14. I bought a large at Stylewe and it was way to small, like I was trying to fit into a size 4 or 6. With the credit I received I went for a 5X – so we will see if that fits.

  37. I’ve had two Stylewe-related experiences, which suggest the site is in fact a venue for real designers and can provide a good product for a very reasonable price. After admiring a dress on Stylewe for several months, priced at a very affordable $88, I placed the order. Only after that did I see the negative reviews. I was prepared for the worst. Before the dress arrived (a three-four week process), I was out to dinner in Manhattan and a woman mentioned that her cousin was a designer in Serbia. I asked her to send me a link to the website where I could see her clothes. You can imagine my surprise when it was Stylewe! A coupe of weeks later, my dress arrived. Although smaller than expected, it fit, and was true to the picture. The quality was as as good as or better than Zara. It looks much more expensive than $88. Having said all this, after reading the reviews, I think Stylewe is a hit or miss situation – which is unfortunate. I think this is a great idea if they could sort out customer service and consistency issues. Would I order again? Yes – if I loved the piece and it was not so expensive I would be devastated if it didn’t work out. Here’s the link to the dress:https://www.stylewe.com/product/floral-print-chiffon-two-piece-midi-dress-22781.html

This website is nothing but bs, they handle their business in a very unreponsable way, in my own experience I love shopping online as everyone know no every website is trustable but this one in particular is the worst from all. They processed my payment after choose some items, then hold my money for about 2 weeks before to send me an email saying that “they regret to inform me the items were out of stock”.. seriously?? Then asked me if I wanted to exchange or reimbursement, so I choose to exchange, after several hours looking for a similar 2 items at similar price, got back to them and inform them back about my preference, ok.. 2 days after they get back your me announcing that those items wasn’t available either,,, making short long story, I went through 3 time attempts to exchange trying to get something I like it, well,,,,, am still waiting for them to refound my money back in my back. For me? This website is an scam

  40. The cynic in me says a new website full of independent designers couldn’t possibly have that many pages of clothing items. So I did a reverse image search on what you bought…

That dress picture is on several other websites, including AliExpress which is an off-shoot of AliBaba – the well known wholesale company for cheap Chinese cr*p.

    http://tr.aliexpress.com/item/Europe-2015-Spring-And-Summer-Dress-Fashion-Style-Summer-Dress-AMISU-Free-Print-Vestidos-Femininos-Lapel/32383792701.html?isOrigTitle=true

I clicked through to the designer/manufacturer’s store on that website, and they also sell hiking backpacks, 20 styles of snow pants, purses, ping pong paddles… Probably not an independent designer! Bummer, I’d love a website like that if it was legit.

  41. This is interesting, Jill. I have looked at their dresses and at shirts on She In. I agree the photos are very fashionable. I am concerned about quality and fit. On She In, the sizing is all over the place. Last night I was looking at customer photos and it appears to me that the fashion photo is made with one type of fabric and a similar looking one is used for the customer’s. The customer photos looked cheaper. I worry if they tell the truth about the sizing, too.

  42. This is interesting to know. What it sounds like is they are trying to make a version on Tao Bao in the US. When I visited a number of factories in China last summer, all of them were trying to get in on the Tao Bao craze- which, the best analogy I can think of, is along the lines of an Etsy format where “designers” set up their own shops and they can sell clothes cheap and quick to an expanding middle class in China. It may not be the best quality, but I think it depends on where it is coming from. Also, I suspect that the “designer” could be a random name and does not represent a specific point of view.
Personally, I am super excited about this and what it can mean for fashion. Of course, it’s far from perfect and they will obviously need to figure out the American consumer and standards. However, the clothing I have seen in China for the Chinese consumer is so much more interesting and novel than what US retailers are willing to risk for the sake of the bottom line. Let’s call it a work in progress.
    Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • Thank you for your insight. I haven’t heard of Tao Bao, very interesting. I also found it interesting when reading comments on their (Style WE)FB site that many looked like they came from not necessarily a 20-something crowd but a little older. And, as a demographic ages the fashion choices get less interesting. So, I think there is definitely a need/want for fun, unique designs no matter the age. I’m going to be watching them to see how they handle their growth. I went so far as to privately IM them and offered up my resume, if they need a marketing person stateside.

      • I hate to burst your bubble, but these aren’t designers at all. These are just random “names” that the factories come up with so they can sell their pieces for more (I put names in quotes, because they’re not even real names. They’re completely fabricated for the purpose of pushing these items.) These dresses cost no more than $10 to make, and they know what westerners will pay more if they say it’s “designer”, “independent”, and “unique”. I would do a reverse image search for the same item on Google to see if you can find the same item on aliexpress or something.
