eHow Crafts “Smittens”

eHow Smittens

If you haven’t checked out eHow Crafts yet, you should!

There are lots of cute projects with tutorials on the eHow Crafts site. There are various types of craft projects, literally almost from a to z (and everything in-between) or at least everything from accessories to yarn.

The mittens above are from the “Sweater to Mittens = Smittens” tutorial by Beth Huntington. Beth Huntington also writes a wonderful sewing blog called The Renegade Seamstress. The Renegade Seamstress blog has great upcycling project ideas, like using an old wool blanket to create a clutch purse. The tutorial for that project can also be found on the eHow Crafts site.

I came across eHow Crafts when I needed a present for a White Elephant gift exchange. The gift had to be purchased from a thrift store and cost less than $5.00. I had seen some cute sweater refashions on blogs so I bought this cute kids sweater for $1.98 at the thrift store. The refashion had to be an easy one since I only had a day to complete it.

The “Smittens” project fit the bill. They were very quick and simple to make. However, I have long fingers and the pattern was a bit short for my long digits. I’ll lengthen the top of the mitten and start the thumb farther down if I make a pair these mittens for myself in the future.

  1. Thanks Lynne! The funny story is that I didn’t think about the fact that there would be men participating in the gift exchange. As soon as I saw that this was the case I turned to my friend and said “I certainly hope that “X” doesn’t pick my gift” (“X” is a single man who I would describe as “he shops at the big & tall”). There is no way that the mittens would be appropriate for, or fit “X”. And yes of course “X” picked my gift. Glad they didn’t take too long to make!
