QoM – What does it take to be an Advanced Seamstress?

QoMPhoto

Most of us that sew a fair amount consider ourselves either Advanced Beginner or Intermediate sewers. We’ve moved past sewing straight lines and we can do things like insert zippers, make wearable clothing sometimes, and tackle a more complicated craft project like a bag with numerous pockets and closures. But what keeps us from calling ourselves Advanced sewers? This is the Question of the Month. What would it take for you to call yourself an Advanced Seamstress? Satsuki Kill La Kill Cosplay Tutorial

Satsuki Collage

This is the third cosplay outfit I’ve made for my daughter. I only had 2 weeks to pull it off. Thankfully my husband took a keen interest in helping with this one and we were able to complete it the night before she was to wear it! It is Satsuki from Kill La Kill. Don’t ask me what this is as I have no idea. You’d have to ask my daughter. She did tell me, however, that the outfit is supposed to be alive! This is the drawing she gave me that we worked from (sadly I don’t know who to credit for it): Continue reading “Satsuki Kill La Kill Cosplay Tutorial”

Homestuck Cosplay Tutorial – Jade Harley in God Tier

JadeHarley Collage

My daughter’s second cosplay outfit is from Homestuck – Jade Harley in God Tier. You can see a great drawing of her here. I also used this drawing as a reference:

I don’t really know anything about Homestuck or Jade Harley or God Tier. I tried watching one “episode” of Homestuck and had absolutely no idea what was going on! You’d have to ask my daughter. Continue reading “Homestuck Cosplay Tutorial – Jade Harley in God Tier”

My Favorite Pattern-of-the-Week: A Batwing Top

Batwing Collage

Hancock Fabrics recently had one of their 99c pattern sales for at least one of the big 4 companies.  They also had a sale on Kwik Sew patterns.  I always give Kwik Sew patterns a look – they seem to have a lot of nice looking basic, functional patterns for wardrobe building.  I was perusing the catalogs looking for a nice basic skirt pattern for my daughter, whose next cosplay outfit is going to be Jade Harley wearing God Tier.  She’s from something called HomeStuck. “Attack on Titan” – A Cosplay Jacket and Shirt

AttackTitan Collage

My daughter attended Nan Desu Kan 2013 last September.  2012 was the first year she attended but this year she wanted to go in costume!  One of her favorite anime shows is “Attack on Titan” and she wanted to attend as one of the soldiers:

I nearly had a heart attack!  She would need a custom made shirt, jacket (with embroidered patches), strapping, and a “skirt”.  Thankfully I knew I could buy the pants and the boots.  And I would need to complete all of this in about a month.
