Artist, textile designer, and author Lena Corwin showcases the creativity of 100 diverse and talented American fiber artists in her latest book, Cloth, celebrating the timeless crafts of weaving, quilting, dyeing, and other heritage textile techniques.
Cloth highlights contemporary artists who are thoughtfully reviving and reimagining traditional methods. Corwin introduces artists from a vibrant array of backgrounds, each uniquely influenced by their cultural heritage and creative journeys. Together, their stories and artwork offer an engaging exploration of fiber art’s depth and variety.
The book is divided into four engaging and beautiful chapters, each dedicated to a distinct fiber-art approach:
Weave and Braid: Loom work and handweaving
Sew and Quilt: Patchwork, stitching, and embroidery
Loop and Felt: Crochet, knitting, and felting
Print and Dye: Screen printing, block printing, batik, and dyeing techniques
Readers will also find practical inspiration through eight detailed DIY projects, designed by Lena Corwin alongside featured artists, encouraging hands-on learning, experimentation, and creative expression.
Contributors to Cloth include Zak Foster (host of the Seamside podcast), Jen Garrido, Ilana Kohn, Rose Pearlman, Hopie Stockman Hill of Block Shop, and Windy Chien, many others.
It is a beautiful, full-color book that you’ll spend hours with and beyond with the DIY projects.
I’d also like to announce our Meetup for May 8 which will have a demonstration by April Hoy of Go Sewn Collective. She’ll be demonstrating and answering any questions on the Garment Designer software an easy-to-use program. Garment Designer includes custom sizing or standard sizes for Misses, Women, Men, Plus & Petite sizes, Children, Toddlers, Infants & Doll sizes.
You can create tops, pants, skirts, and dresses in any of the above sizes using Garment Designer. Take your sewing to the next level! Come with questions!
Meetup starts at 6pm and you are free to sew during and after or just hang out!
